Psilocybe medullosa magic mushrooms were originally described in 1898 as Naucoria medullosa by Italian mycologist Giacomo Bresadola. Czech mycologist Jan Borovička transferred it to Psilocybe in 2007, and it is very similar to the species Psilocybe silvatica.
