Psilocybe guilartensis magic mushrooms are known only to Puerto Rico, where they are common, and Dominican Republic. Here, this species grows gregariously on disturbed bare clay or moss along hiking trails, in coffee plantations, tropical and subtropical forests. Especially in landslide areas.

Pileas

When young, cap is slightly conical to bell-shaped and becomes plano-convex (one side flat the other rounded) with a central bump (umbo) with age. The cap surface is dark violet-brown.

Gills

Gills are a cream colour when young, becoming dark violet or chocolate brown upon sporulation. They reach the stem but do not attach to it.

Stipe

Stem is hollow and cylindrical with a slightly bulbous base covered in tiny yellow fibers. Colour is white to brown with blue bruising and small scales towards the base.
