Looking for a mushroom that is a mouthful in more ways than one, meet Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata magic mushrooms. Discovered by mycologist Richard Gaines, it inhabits the eastern United States, from Kentucky to Rhode Island. Since P.ovoideocystidiata is a relatively recently discovered species, there is evidence that its range is spreading quickly to new areas after originally being found in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. There are observations from overseas as well in Europe, specifically in Switzerland and southern Germany.
Some specimens of Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata turn blue as soon as they become bruised, but not always. They do, however, commonly turn blue when they begin to dry out.
