TMS & Brain Health offers innovative brain health and ketamine therapy in Los Angeles and Santa Monica, California. We are proud to be the first clinic in Southern California to specialize in personalized Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), Ketamine infusion therapy, Spravato™ Esketamine nasal spray, and neurofeedback. These cutting-edge techniques are scientifically proven to help patients with Major Depressive Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Anxiety, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, and Insomnia. We have seen success in many patients who had not experienced adequate relief with traditional treatment, or who were bothered by the side-effects of medications.

First, a new patient will meet with a member of our psychiatric team for a comprehensive consultation in which the patient’s candidacy for treatments will be determined. We take time to assess and understand the unique needs of each patient in order to create a personalized treatment plan based on their specific symptoms, past experiences, and goals. We accept most insurance plans and our administrative team makes the claim process easy. We guide new patients through every step of the process and help to obtain any prior authorization on their behalf. To speak with a representative about your options, call our office today or request an appointment using our online scheduling tool, and a TMS & Brain Health representative will reach out to you!

How Frequently Should You Receive a Ketamine Infusion?

Unlike conventional antidepressants, ketamine doesn’t need to build up in your system over time in order to be effective — most patients experience fast relief after just one infusion.

Even so, ketamine isn’t a “one-and-done” treatment that magically cures depression in a single treatment session. Instead, it’s a controlled therapy that aims to restore optimal brain function steadily so you can achieve complete and lasting symptom remission.

For patients with TRD and other mood disorders, ketamine infusion therapy initially calls for a series of six infusions spaced out over the course of two to three weeks. This typically means having an infusion every other day or every two days until all six are completed.

While many people feel much better within an hour of their first ketamine infusion, others don’t feel substantially better until they’ve had at least three infusions. Some people don’t experience meaningful symptom relief until they’ve completed all six sessions.

It’s important to understand that even though ketamine can produce dramatic changes in brain function and mood, such results aren’t universal. In fact, it’s just as likely that you’ll experience subtle symptom relief that gradually improves from one infusion to the next.

Ketamine Infusion Boosters

After completing your initial ketamine treatment, you should experience total or near-total symptom remission, meaning depression no longer pervades your mood, directs your behavior, or controls your life — you do.

What happens next is determined by how long you stay in remission. Patients typically enjoy about three months of complete relief before their symptoms gradually begin to creep back up; luckily, a “booster” infusion is often all it takes to reverse the trend and get back on track.

Provided on an as-needed basis, a ketamine booster usually consists of two infusions spaced one or two days apart. Some people require a standing ketamine booster every month to keep their symptoms in remission, while others fare well with a booster every six months.

As one of the first mental health clinics to offer ketamine therapy in Los Angeles , TMS & Brain Health is staffed by experienced specialists who are dedicated to providing progressive care and innovative treatment solutions for people with TRD.
