Mazatepec magic mushrooms (Psilocybe cubensis Mazatapec) are similar in effects to the Hualta and other Mexican species, originating from the mountainous region of Mazatepec is known for eliciting spiritual type experiences. Stipes are slender and cylindrical and the pileus is usually bulbous, with colouration ranging from brown to golden, which may become discoloured to purple/black upon maturity since this strain has abundant sporulation.  One unique characteristic about this strain is the caps stay partially closed.

Mazatepec has deep roots in Mexican and Central American Indigenous history and has been used in religious ceremonies for thousands of years by the indigenous of the Mazatepec region of Mexico.
